I CAN LIVE GREEN Opening Day

Yesterday (25th April 2010) we have 126 people registered not inclusive of late comers, Council Staffs & organizers & St. Nicholas Home. The wonderful thing was that they went home interested & happy.

The event was simple with little formality & protocols (only the opening & speeches were formal).

Guest of Honor plants the first tree. Many kids & participants get to plan trees as well. After tree planting was talk on EM.

The talk was suppose to be by Jon Su the expert, in the last minute he wanted me to do it. The audience was very interested banding their heads forward to see the slides & movie clip better. A lot of the adults came asking questions. They were very interested about EM (Effective Microbe) , whether it is usable at home (A:Yes) & the side effects of Mud Balls (A: None, they are just mud & natural bacterias).

The talk is followed by mud balls making session. St. Nicholas blind boys demonstrate to the public. Then the kids get to do it. They really enjoyed making mud balls & did a great job too. Many adults can't resist the fun & also join in making mud balls. Some people even took home.

St. Nicholas brought boxes of mud ball with them, all actually not fully covered with mold yet. But the children sooooo wanted to throw them that I had to let them do it. I ask every kids to bring as many as their hands can hold. They were really happy seeing the mud balls flying into the black river. Then one JCI member happily came with a whole box and the kids started throwing like mad. Watching adults started stretching their hands for the balls and trowing happily too. One box follow by many more boxes. Even the blind came to throw. Everyone had fun. I threw a few too : )

After mud balls throwing was drawing competition. The children had lots of fun drawing & colouring. After that they had to tell what they are trying to say in their drawing. I was fun for me & them too. Here are some photos that I have in my camera.

The interest of the residents to setup a recycle-collection system & food waste-collection system were high. YB Phee Boon Poh said he will get the MPPP to provide bins & man power to run the system that we intend to help setup. There will be a meeting with the residents on Thursday 8:30PM to take this further.

Everyone went home happy. : )

The Story of Jaja

Sometimes we wonder why can we keep ignoring what’s happening around us. Why do we choose to close our eyes assuming the world is as beautiful as how we imagine. But not JaJa.

The story of the missing of JaJa is now revealed!

MISSING!! JaJa The Squirrel.
  • Family: Sciuridae
  • Height: 25cm
  • Weight: 200g
  • Body: Dark brown
  • Favorite Food: Nuts and seeds
  • Favorite Pastime: Jumping from trees to trees

TAMAN JAJAR, a beautiful park located at Medan York, is the beautiful place of birth for JaJa. But years ago, the park has been losing it’s natural beauty. Dying trees and grass, tree stumps, polluted and smelly river, and termite hives are everywhere. Since then, poor tini winnie JaJa has been facing the risk of malnutrition and losing its lovely home.

Yes, that is why JaJa went missing!

This is the affect of our ignorance & negligence towards our own environment. Jaja is a warning sign of what will happen to us too if we don't take care of our environment.

However, this is not the end for Jaja & family! Here comes the beginning of a happy journey,
I CAN LIVE GREEN
– The Reviving Taman Jajar Project.

What does this project do?
1. Take action to save Jaja, his family & their home (Taman Jajar),
2. Educate people How To LIVE GREEN,
3. Apply @ home it's easy, saves your money, healthy for the family and makes your house a cooling, healthy & harmonious home to live in.

Our will power is far mightier than a squirrel. Our conscience doesn't allow us to wait anymore to let little JaJa and his family suffer further. WE MUST RESCUE JAJA!!

I see no reasons you will refrain yourself from joining us! ;)

Little drops of water makes the mighty ocean.
Little actions we take daily can change the great world.

Let's work together to save our Mother Earth.

UNBERABLE HOT WEATHER

HOW’s THE WEATHER … HOT! HOT!! HOT!!!

The weather is extremely hot again. It’s so hot that everyone will keep themselves away from under the hot sun to as few moments as possible. Even the trees, grass and lakes are drying up.

I pity those people that work in the open like builders, road sweepers, street paddlers, garbage collectors and senior citizens that wander in the streets. (Let’s call them the choice-less)

THE INNOCENT LOT

Even though the heat and its hash effects is so obvious and all around us, there are many many people that are oblivious of its seriousness. Many are aware from reading or TV but not really given serious thoughts and attempts to do something about the problem.

I can’t blame this innocent lot. This is because our modern lifestyle conditioned the lot to be ignorant of the problem or taking it lightly. How so?

THE UNEXPOSED LIFESTYLE

On working days,

7am to late 8pm: Start driving to work

830am to 6pm or later: Working in air-conditioned and well lighted office. Minimal if no exposure to the hot sun.

6pm, around: Start driving home or to some outing activities.

Night time: Spend the night in air-conditioned or well ventilated places, having a nice time with family or friends.

On weekends or holidays,

Morning: Wake up around 10am OR doing outdoor activities in the morning but finish before 11am when the sun gets unbearable.

The rest of the day: at home or in shopping malls, away from the uncomfortable weather outside.

Night time: Spend the night in air-conditioned or well ventilated places, having a nice time with family or friends.

This kind of lifestyle hardly expose one to the punishing heat. If any exposure to the punishing sun, it is only occasionally or temporarily. For example when there is a power failure, attend funerals, celebrate Cheng Beng , driving or walking out for lunch.

THE CONCERNED LOT

There is also the concerned lot. These people are aware of the seriousness of the weather and are worried about it. They really want to do something about it but do not know where or how to help. Some are looking for people, places, activities and events that enable them to help.

THE PROBLEM IS THERE

Regardless of which group you belong to. Regardless if you feel the heat or not. The problem is REALLY BAD and it’s GETTING WORSE. It will continue to worsen because we are not doing enough to make it cooler.

EVERYONE CAN HELP

Fortunately, everyone of us can do something to help in our daily life. We are not doing it because we are just not taught how to do it, I mean “Green Living”. It’s easy, saves money and promotes a healthy life.

LET’S MAKE IT COOLER

Me and my friends are taking action now to help the Earth and ourselves. I call our action, theI CAN LIVE GREENproject. We would like to invite you to join us to help the Earth. We need all the support we can get: man-power, time, technical advice, constructive opinions and even your very presence in our activities. If your living in another part of the world you can do the same thing as us in your neighbourhood.

TOGETHER WE CAN COOL DOWN THE EARTH.

What's the Project All About?

The Green Living Project is a community project to:

1. Impart the knowledge of green living to the community,

2. Raise the awareness of the importance saving the environment.

3. Educate people as to how our environment affects us and that by helping to create a healthy living environment we are indirectly helping ourselves - in terms of health.

This project will start with Taman Jajar in Penang, Malaysia and it will involve nearby residents, school and the general public.

The goal of this project is:

Revive Taman Jajar and its nearby river to produce a healthy and comfortable atmosphere for the community to live in. This initiative also provides a practical opportunity and platform for the community to participate in the initiative to protect the environment.

Develop the sense of ownership and appreciation of a healthy recreation park among the community by giving them a voice over the management and maintenance of Taman Jajar.

Stay tuned....as we will be posting our Plan of Action to reach the goal in the upcoming article..
